Frequently Asked Questions
It can be daunting trying to find a coach and so on this page I've put down some of the most common questions and their answers upfront to help make the process a little easier.
Difference between Coach, Counsellor and Therapist.
It can be very confusing as a potential client to make sense of all these terms.
Coaching is a process where a coach supports a client in achieving personal and/or professional goal(s) by providing guidance, feedback, and encouragement to a tailored plan to their needs. Psychotherapy and counselling are forms of talk therapy.
Individual talk therapists can be differentiated by their levels of qualification (certificates, diplomas, masters, PhDs and so on), the length of time it took them to qualify (months to years), the level of experience they attained and their recognition from local and national authorities. Talk therapists are also differentiated by their theoretical orientation (e.g. psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioural, person-centered etc.) and length of therapy offered (short vs long term therapy). I do not offer talk therapy and am not qualified to do so.
I have a coaching qualification in ADHD Coaching accredited by the Complementary Medical Association. I have also undertaken training in Stress and Burnout Prevention and am currently completing my studies in Pain Management. I continue to undertaking additional regular further professional training through the year in line with my professional development plan to ensure that my clients receive the most up to date resources. Please feel free to contact me with any more queries and I will do my best to answer them.
Are my sessions reimbursable with my Health Insurance?
Coaching is not covered by health insurance so you will not be able to use Swiss health insurance (either LAMAL or complementary insurance) to get sessions with me reimbursed.
How do you find the right coach for you?
This is a great question and gets to the heart of what coaching is about. Whether coaching or therapy, the process can be largely about the relationship between the client and their coach/therapist, whether that ‘therapist’ carries the label coach, psychotherapist or counsellor. In fact, recent research shows that the type of therapy offered is less important than the quality of the connection between ‘therapist’ and client.
What this means for you as a client is that it is okay to meet with a coach for one or two sessions and then decide that it is not a “good fit”. In fact, most good coaches or therapists would actively encourage their prospective clients to be curious and cast the net wide when choosing a coach/therapist, and certainly not to settle for the first person you meet (unless the fit feels good).
To help you make this decision with less of a financial burden, I offer each client a free 30 minute free consultation to help you decide whether I am the right fit for you. If I am not, then I am happy to refer you to an appropriate practitioner in my trusted network.
What if it turns out I need counselling/therapy rather than coaching or as well as?
If after a session or two we reach the conclusion that you would benefit from counselling / therapy rather than coaching, I can recommend some contacts for you to try. Then it will be up to you as to whether to proceed solely with counselling, or with a combination of both counselling and coaching, depending on your individual needs.
Do you offer any other languages than English?
No, at this time my other languages are not strong enough to support coaching so I only offer coaching in English. I am happy to work with Sign Language interpreters however, and consider any other reasonable considerations you need to carry out sessions to ensure that they are accessible to you.
I don't live in Switzerland but would like to engage in coaching, do you take non-Swiss residents?
Yes, as long as you speak English and you feel that the fit is right for you, then I am happy to support you with your coaching needs. I can take CHF, EUR and GBP as payment. For other currencies and costs in non-CHF, please contact me for the costs.
